Notre Dame (13-3, 2-1) 74 - USF (10-4, 0-2) 73

Recap     Box Score

With a 13 pt lead midway through the 2nd half, ND failed to score a point for three and a half minutes. Tied with 2s left, Harangody missed the first of two free throws but made the second to go up a point. USF failed to inbounds the ball and ND held on the win. A poor shooting performance all around didn't help. The team shot 25-61 (41%). Individually, Hansbrough was 1-6, TJ 3-12, Nash 3-8, Abro 4-10, Gody 13-23, Peoples 0-1 and Scott 1-1. What did help was making 17-20 free throws.

It's not worth harping on lack of depth anymore. Three games in and we haven't seen more than 7 guys hit the floor. Our 2009-10 starters are Abromaitis, Gody, Nash, Jackson and Hansbrough. Peoples and Carlton Scott will see limited time off the bench. Gody and TJ both played 40 minutes, Hansbrough 36, Abro 35, Nash 31. It will come back to bite us sooner or later as the season wears on. Gody had a season high 36 pts, but only 6 rebounds. This could be in part to his 4 of 5 shooting performance from beyond the arc. Gody won't have as stellar numbers this season whilst trying to impress NBA scouts and improve his stock.

The first edition of bracketology unsurprisingly left ND off the list. College of Charleston (who defeated #9 UNC in OT the other night) is in at a 15 seed. The Big East does have 7 current bids (#2 Villanova, #2 Syracuse, #2 West Virginia, #4 Georgetown, #4 Connecticut, #7 Pittsburgh, #8 Cincinnati). It's very far out at this point but it's a safe bet that the top 5 will make the tourney. As far as seeding, stay tuned. But we may be NIT bound once again.

Else where in the Big East:
Monday
Pittsburgh (13-2, 3-0) 74 - Cincinnati (10-4, 2-1) 71

Next Game: Sat. Jan. 9 vs #8 West Virginia (11-1, 2-0) 8pm ET

Go Irish!
