Jack Swarbrick had an interview with the South Bend Tribune linked here
Here's a question asked of Swarbrick:
Q: Is there an urgency to get a Big 12 or SEC team on the schedule beyond the upcoming home-and-home with Oklahoma?
A: “We do have that series with Oklahoma, but beyond that, not particularly. I think there are schools that make sense for us for any number of reasons.
“I'd like to try and figure out how to keep the Stanford relationship, because in so many ways, that's an institution we like to do business with and have multiple relationships with across the university.
“I'd like to do more with Duke and Wake and some of those schools. It's really more institutionally focused - what's a good fit for Notre Dame? What sort of looks and feels like us?”
Begin the collective moaning of scheduling the Duke & Wake Forest types instead of Georgia or Oklahoma State. Blah blah. As long as we stay away from the C-USA, MAC, Sun Belt, etc teams, we can play the mid to low level BCS Conf. teams. I don't buy too much into the strict Tier I, II, III teams we need to have a 3-5-4 distribution. I agree with the Tier I but the II and III classification begins to get fuzzy. Also, teams can jump too quickly between II and III depending on the year they're having.
Swarbrick also dodged the question about ResLife.
Kelly started off by introducing all the coaches and giving a background on them. He's continuing to say the right things and it appears things are pointed in the right direction. He said that yesterday 7 guys threw up before they were done stretching. That may be the post-workout stretch but push them hard. I'm pretty sure it had been said that Weis didn't always have practices going full speed and tackling to the ground, looks like that's about to change. Kelly also asked the team to buy in unconditionally. ND missed out on bowl practices so they're behind everyone else in the country. Maybe I'm drinking the kool-aid already but I like where things are going. I'm still holding out on a final opinion until September. Cincinnati may have gone 12-0, but had their share of last minute come backs after giving up a bunch of points. The game against Pitt that they won 46-44 comes to mind immediately. But being able to score quickly is a good skill to have. Let's see how things translate from Cincy in the Big East to ND in the interesting non-conference conference. (Since we play the same core teams every year, that might as well be our conference. UM, MSU, PU, SC, Stanford, Navy)
