NCAA probe and its Effects

Hearings Committee to Meet Feb 19
The NCAA has completed its probe of USC beyond just athletes and coaches and teams but beyond to whether they had institutional control over its programs and a proper system of checks and balances. Maybe Carroll knew what was coming and hence ready to go. Tim Floyd left immediately after the allegations came out regarding O.J. Mayo. It seems Carroll is doing the same.

While there's a part of me hoping that USC gets the book thrown at them for cheating and they need to be made an example of, if the punishments are too severe then this will impact all of college football for the next couple of seasons. ND has counted on SC to annually boost our strength of schedule. And if Michigan continues to slide as well, it's possible Pitt could be the "toughest" game on our schedule. Also, the only Irish coach to beat PC was Bob Davie... While it's possibly we now can win next year, we won't get the joy nor satisfaction of taking down a PC-led team. They will still be good next year with the talent in reserve. The question becomes what coach is willing to launch themselves into the frying pan and take over a program that could possibly see "death penalty"-like sanctions?

But this does have immediate benefits, hopefully Kelly is out and looking to poach some SC recruits that are wavering. Kyle Prater (WR from Illinois) being one.

The ripple effect will be interesting.

Go Irish!
