Interview with Zibby

Q&A with Ravens safety Tom Zbikowski

Zibby has made it past the special teams unit and had his first two career starts in the past two games against Green Bay and Detriot. In each of these games, Zibby had an interception, his first career INT coming against Aaron Rodgers. Some key points of the interview:
  • In college Zibby rarely watched game film and didn't understand offenses. He just went out and played, reacting to the offense. He says he didn't do film study on his own because he didn't know what to look for and what he was doing. An interesting perspective looking back on the results of the Willingham/Weis regime. Maybe our problem is hiring coaches whose last name starts with W.
  • He feels Weis, more so than most people, understood why he was let go. It comes down to winning in the end.
  • In regards to Brian Kelly, he wants to see an emphasis on education. He wasn't that great of a student but got by. Really though, if you're going to Notre Dame to get a degree in NFLology, does it matter what your GPA is? Do teams ask for you GPA along with prior game film?

All in all, despite Zibby's criticism of himself and perspective on past performance, Zibby was a great player because of the effort he gave every down. He brought excitement and determination and showed it until the last snap of the game. He was a playmaker and a game changer. He scored seven touchdowns: three punt returns, two interception returns (of the six INTs he made) and two fumble returns (on the only two fumble recoveries he made).

Go Irish!
